Premier Message / First Post
Bonjour a tous,
Comme vous le savez, ou comme vous allez le savoir, me voilà lancé pour mon premier job, ma première mission dans le cadre d'un VIE (Volontariat International en Entreprise). Je suis basé sur l'île de Tristan da Cunha. Où ça se trouve? Ouvrez grand votre Google Earth ou votre atlas, direction l'Atlantique Sud, à mi-chemin entre l'Argentine et L'Afrique. Vous voyez les 3 bouts de cailloux qui émergent au mileu de nulle-part, comme une provocation, un non-sens? Et bien voilà, c'est là. Vous vous demandé surement ce que je suis venu faire ici, et c'est légitime comme question. Mon travail, c'est d'opérer des stations de mesure d'un réseau Onusien. Je travaille avec 2 opérateurs, qui sont des habitants de l'île.
Jusqu'au 7 Octobre, je suis avec mon prédecesseur, Jean, qui est resté ici 6 mois. On est en train de paufiner ma formation. Je vais rester en place 9 mois, jusqu'à Juin prochain... C'est l'occasion ou jamais de faire 3 étés à la suite!

Dear All,
As you may know, or as you will know 15 words ahead, I have started for my first job couple of weeks ago. The place I am staying? Tristan da Cunha, South Atlantic Ocean. Just feel free to open Google Earth, and have a look somewhere halfway between Cape Town (RSA) and Argentina. Can you see these 3 small rocky islands? Here is it. I can hear you from here : "what the hell is he doing there?". Actually, operating United Nations measurement stations. I am managing the station, working with 2 local operators.
Until October 7th, Jean, the former manager is also here to learn me what as to be known about the job, but also about the island and the inhabitants! Nice people indeed! I will stay on the island for 9 months, sounds pretty long I know, but this is also a unique opportunity to get 3 summers on a raw: 1 in France, 1 here, and 1 back in France!
I will give more news soon, as I will have more (much more?) free time in 10 days, when Jean will be away!
